Annie McKendy provides arbitration, mediation and independent investigation services with respect to labour and employment in both English and French. She is a member of the Ontario Labour Management Arbitrator’s Association and a Member of the Ontario Grievance Settlement Board. Before becoming an adjudicator, Annie was counsel for the Ontario Nurses’ Association for 10 years, where she acted in countless mediations, labour arbitrations and proceedings before the Ontario Labour Relations Board. She was then appointed as a Vice-Chair of the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, where she mediated and adjudicated cases, the majority of which arose from workplace disputes in both unionized and non-unionized environments. Annie regularly speaks at conferences.
Annie graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa where she received degrees in Droit Civil (LL.L) and Common Law (LL.B.). She went on to complete a Master of Law (LL.M.) at Cornell University in 2006. Upon her return to Ottawa, she articled with the House of Commons Legal and Legislative services, and then spent a year clerking for the Federal Court of Canada, where she claims to have been bitten by the adjudication bug.
Annie has experience crafting creative resolutions to workplace disputes, assisting parties with case-management and conducting complex hearings. She approaches workplace disputes with an understanding of the interplay between personal factors that animate disputes and the importance of the ongoing relationship between the parties in the unionized workplace.
